Test whether the conflict is real
Two papers may use the same headline term while studying different populations, periods or outcomes. Record each actual claim and page. Findings conflict only when they appear incompatible under comparable conditions.
Compare the consequential differences
Example: One study finds a positive link between feedback and writing motivation among first-year students, while another finds none among part-time students. Compare measures, sample sizes, context and uncertainty. Neither paper is automatically wrong.
Offer a bounded interpretation
Group findings by condition or methodological quality instead of alternating summaries. Write “One possible explanation is …” when no study tested the mechanism directly. Note differences you cannot assess.
Connect the disagreement to your question
Say whether your thesis adds a context comparison, replication or another perspective. One bachelor thesis rarely settles a field-wide dispute. Do not erase genuine disagreement to create a tidier story.
Final submission context
Formal details can feel like a separate writing task, but they matter just as much for a printed submission. Anything missing, misplaced or inconsistently formatted in the document will also appear in the bound copy.
